Won, Torricer capture OIA golf season opener

Moanalua’s Kenneth Won and McKinley’s Jodi Torricer started the OIA golf season strong on Monday at Leilehua Golf Course.

Won carded a 1-over 73 to win the league’s first boys tournament of the season. He finished one stroke ahead of Na Menehune teammate Joseph Vallespin.

Torricer shot an 8-over 80, two strokes clear of second-place Courtney Tabion of Leilehua to win the first girls tourney of the season.

The ILH opened up on Monday at Mililani Golf Club with no surprise on the girls side. Defending state champion Mariel Galdiano of Punahou shot a 67 to beat runner up Lorraine Char of Kamehameha by four strokes. Punahou won the team title over ‘Iolani.

Punahou’s Matthew Shen was the boys medalist with a 70 to Kamehameha’s Spencer Dunaway’s 71. Just like in the girls, Punahou won the team competition over ‘Iolani.
