The Waianae Seariders nearly pulled off a great comeback win on Wednesday on the road in an OIA D-I playoff game against Roosevelt.

Roosevelt prevailed 6-5, ending Waianae’s season.

Instead of Walt Grilho, assistant coach Bernard Beaver was in charge. Grilho, their second-year head coach, said that he is “on leave.”

Grilho was part of Kekoa Kaluhiokalani‘s staff and had been an assistant since 1998. He declined to comment during a phone conversation on Wednesday night, citing the school and DOE’s investigation. He did specify that he has not been suspended or otherwise.

Waianae was 4-6 and placed fifth in the OIA West coming into the opening round of the OIA playoffs.
