Shayla-Ann Santos, a senior outside hitter for Sacred Hearts, has accepted a volleyball scholarship to play for DePaul University, according to Lancers athletic director Ryan Hogue.

Santos is the sister of Shawna-Lei Santos, who starred at Sacred Hearts before going on to have an outstanding four-year career at St. John’s University from 2012 to 2015.

This is what the 5-foot-10 Santos, who also plays for the ‘Imi ‘Ike volleyball club, wrote on her NCSA Internet recruiting profile:

“I love to Win. I work hard. I play hard. I’m a good teammate. I can get along with most anyone. I love being part of a team. I love to compete. My ambition is not to just get a scholarship but to be a player on the court. I want to play. I will make my teammates better at practice and in the game.

“I take my education very serious. I attend an an all-girls Catholic private school. Academics are hard. The schedule that I keep now requires me to be very organized. The good thing is I know I will be ready for college. If I’m on your team, you will get a serious student, a great volleyball player and a good person. I believe in family and families stick together.”
