The second day of the Ann Kang Invitational began this morning with one of the biggest matches so far.

Undefeated teams in Pool A — Punahou and Long Beach Poly — met in the Lower Gym with the Buffanblu notching an impressive 25-15, 28-26 win over the Jackrabbits.

Punahou went on to sweep Mid-Pacific and King Kekaulike and has yet to drop a set heading into the final day on Saturday.

The Buffanblu finish pool play against Santa Margarita (Calif.) on Saturday morning.

The top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals. Long Beach Poly (5-1) beat Santa Margarita (5-1) on Thursday in three sets in another crucial match.

Pool B, which is led by ‘Iolani (3-0) and Mater Dei (3-0), begins play at 3 p.m. The Raiders will play Mater Dei on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the final game of pool play for both teams.

Oak Ridge (2-1) and San Juan Hills (2-1) are also in contention in Pool B.

UPDATE: Oak Ridge with the 25-22, 25-20 sweep of Mater Dei and suddenly ‘Iolani is alone at the top of the pool while Mater Dei is all of a sudden on the outside looking in.

That ‘Iolani/San Juan Hills game tonight at 8 shaping up to be a big one — and the Raiders take it in convincing fashion with a sweep by identical 25-18 scores.
