Mao, Zhi double up in ILH swimming

Pac-Five swimmers M.J. Mao and Albert Zhi both won two races in an ILH meet at Iolani on Friday.

Mao won the 50 free with a time of 21.81 and later took the 100 back in 56.09 seconds. Zhi was victorious in the 200 free in 1:44.83 and the 100 free in 46.87. They were the only boys to double up.

Other winners included Tyler Sakamoto (Punahou), Jack Horner (Kamehameha), Josh Nekoba (Punahou) and Jack Lee (Iolani).


Sophomore Chanel Ng of Punahou was the only girl to double up, nipping teammate Kyrie Sasaki with a time of 1:01.31. Sasaki, a freshman, covered the distance in 1:01.95. Ng then won the 100 free with a time of 54.75 seconds to beat fellow state champions LeGrand Pound of Sacred Hearts and Maddie Balish of Punahou.


Other winners on the girls side included Jamy Lum (Kamehameha), Hiilani Hopkins (Kamehameha), Kimberly Guevara (Pac-Five), Cagla Brennan (iolani), Dani Kauahi (Punahou) and Nicole Halemano (Punahou).
