Kamehameha, ‘Iolani ranked top 25 in nation

Mark your calendar for Sept. 8.

The first regular-season matchup of what will undoubtedly be a series of exciting girls volleyball matches this season between ‘Iolani and Kamehameha will take place at Kekuhaupio Gym at 4:15 p.m.

It will also be a matchup of a two nationally ranked squads.


Kamehameha, the defending state champion, debuted at No. 15 in the USA Today Super 25 preseason poll on Wednesday while ‘Iolani, the 2016 state champion is No. 21.

Kamehameha hosts its own volleyball tournament this weekend while the Raiders won the Ann Kang Invitational for the second year in a row last Saturday.


Kamehameha and ‘Iolani were also ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in Region 10, which represents Hawaii, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.


Assumption (Kent.) was ranked No. 1 in the country with Mater Dei the top school in California at No. 3.

The ILH regular season begins Sept. 1 in Division I when ‘Iolani hosts Punahou. Kamehameha also opens with Punahou on Sept. 4.
