Whitman (Wash.) senior point guard Casey Poe was voted the Northwest Conference women’s basketball player of the year today.
Poe finished second in the conference averaging 17.0 points per game for the Blues (22-3, 14-2), who are currently ranked No. 13 in Division III.
The 2014 KS-Hawaii alumna is also third in the league in blocks (33), fourth in assists (86) and sixth in steals (47). Her 83.3-percent shooting from the free-throw line leads the conference and she’s second in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.7.
Poe has been named the conference player of the week three times this season and she was the D-III national women’s player of the week on Jan. 17.
She is the third player of the year in school history.
Whitman is seeded second in the NWC postseason tournament and hosts third-seeded Willamette (Ore.) on Thursday.
Whitworth (Wash.) freshman guard Camy Aguinaldo was named the conference’s freshman of the year and made the All-NWC second team.
The 2017 ‘Iolani graduate finished with a team-high 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal in a 67-56 loss to Willamette (Ore.) to end the season on Saturday.
Aguinaldo finishes her freshman season leading the Pirates in scoring at 15.3 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field. She also led the team in assists averaging 5.3 a game.
