Hawaii boasts 3 of the top 40 recruits in the nation

Recruiting website 247Sports updated their football rankings for the class of 2019 and now has three players from Hawaii ranked in the top 40 in the country.

Saint Louis five-star defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele jumped 14 spots and is now No. 13 overall among current high school juniors. The 6-foot-4, 299-pound reigning first-team All-State player is the No. 3-rated defensive tackle prospect.

He holds the most offers of any recruit from Hawaii since Kaiser’s Michael Eletise in 2016.

Kahuku offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi, who was just outside the top 100 before, moved up 70 spots to the No. 32 overall spot. Vimahi, who is 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, is rated sixth among prospects at offensive tackle.

Rounding out the top trio from Hawaii is Punahou linebacker Maninoa Tufono, who also saw a jump in his overall ranking.

Tufono, who is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, is rated No. 38 overall and third among inside linebackers.

Kapolei offensive lineman Julius Buelow, who is 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds, is also listed in the ranking of 247 prospects at No. 213.

Former Kapolei quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, who is now at Thompson Academy in Alabama, is rated No. 100 overall and sixth among QB’s.


Tagovailoa’s recruitment has really heated up recently with offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Florida, Tennessee and Oklahoma State among others.

    Joe Salavea at Oregon is a great coach and recruiter especially for the Polynesian. Look at Hercules mataafa benefited from coach Salavea. Tuitele would be awesome addition to the ducks
