After winning their first OIA girls water polo championship in school history, the Kaiser Cougars earned the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Carr Development/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Championships that begin Monday.

The Cougars will play the winner of Monday’s first-round game between Moanalua and Hawaii Prep taking place at 3 p.m. at Kamehameha-Hawaii.

Na Menehune is one of two OIA teams that will travel off-island for the opening round. Roosevelt will open the tournament Monday against King Kekaulike in Kihei on Maui.

The other two first-round games will be played at Kamehameha on Oahu. Kahuku plays Leilehua at 5 p.m. and ILH runner-up Kamehameha will host Kapolei at 6:15 p.m.

Eleven-time defending state champion Punahou is the No. 1 seed while MIL champion Baldwin earned the No. 3 seed and BIIF champion KS-Hawaii the four seed.

The Cougars will attempt to become the first OIA team to make the final since Kahuku in 2013. The ILH has won all 15 state titles handed out in girls water polo (Punahou 13, ‘Iolani, Kamehameha).
