Kalaheo girls volleyball coach Roberta Downey stepped down recently.

Downey, who has led the team since 2009, said she wants to spend time with club ball and watching the college game. She says she will inquire around Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific to see if they need any volunteer assistants.

She has taken Kalaheo to the state tournament the last four years and five of the eight years she has been at the helm. She was hired in 2009 and won the OIA Division II title in 2014.

Her last match was a 26-24, 25-14 loss to Kapolei in the consolation bracket of the state tournament where Syenna Masaki drilled 11 kills. Masaki is the program’s only Fab 15 selection by a newspaper.

Athletic director Mark Brilhante says he will take resumes for the position until January 20. High school coaching experience is preferred along with NFHS certification in Concussion management, heat illness prevention and sudden cardiac arrest.
