Damien cheerleaders make history

For the first time, Damien is co-ed. Economic downturn. Declining enrollment? Whatever the reason, Damien has female students for the first time, and as a result, the school has its own cheerleaders. In the past, Sacred Hearts (across town) sent cheerleaders to cheer for the Monarchs.

Now they’re all on campus, seventh to ninth graders. Here’s the team, which I came across while leaving a photo shoot with the Damien football team earlier today.

First row: Ellalani Sanchez, Rhiannon Palmere, Joy Pajardo, Kairis, Jimenez, Shayna Olarti, Sarah-Lyn Kaeo, Carina Iwane, Xena Diaz. Second row: Grace Schnetzler, Taylor Labanon, Halui‘a Gora, Shaylynne Dalmacio, Kennedy Kauwenaole, Kilinoe Gora, Mikayla Soto.

Coach: Dior Andrade.
