The regular-season opener for Farrington turned into a memorable night against No. 7 Moanalua. Raefe McEnroe had 16 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in the Governors’ 59-55 win.

VIDEO: No. 4 Maryknoll outlasts No. 5 St. Francis

Fourth-ranked Maryknoll traveled to No. 5 St. Francis in an ILH boys basketball season opener. It was St. Francis’ first boys varsity game in league play at the Division I level. Marcus Tobin led Maryknoll with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kordel Ng had 28 for St. Francis. Maryknoll pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 65-52 win.

The showdown of the day at the Pa‘ani Challenge on Saturday was No. 3-ranked Nanea Estrella of Lahainaluna against No. 4 Jahnea Miguel of Baldwin in the 138 weight class final. Estrella is a two-time state champion in the 117 and 122 weight classes. Miguel is a two-time state champion in 127 and 145. Estrella rallied for a rollicking 12-9 victory. VIDEO: No. 6 Kalani rallies past Kaiser

Trailing most of the first half, sixth-ranked Kalani pulled ahead just before halftime, then exploded in the third quarter en route to an 82-57 win over a tough Kaiser squad. Kamalu Kamakawiwo‘ole led the Lady Falcons with 30 points, and center Kandyce Woods scored nine of her 11 points in the pivotal third quarter. =

VIDEO: No. 5 St. Francis vs. Kailua, ‘Iolani Classic

This matchup was the second between two high-scoring teams, No. 5 St. Francis and Kailua. Unlike the first game, won by St. Francis 87-79 in two overtimes, the Saints had a (semi) healthy Kameron Ng for a full game. The senior finished this game with 30 points as the Saints prevailed 68-62.

For one half, the weary Saints of St. Francis hung tight and trailed No. 1 Punahou by just one point by halftime. Kordel Ng was a one of the many reasons No. 6 St. Francis led for part of the way, scoring 25 of his 31 points in the first two quarters. Punahou went on to win, 87-55, in the final of the St. Francis Holiday Hoops Classic on Wednesday.
