Corey Cabanban went up one weight class each year and conquered them all. The Saint Louis senior won his fourth state wrestling title Thursday night, this one at 126 pounds to go along with the ones he won at 120, 113 and 106. He is only the fifth Hawaii boys wrestler to get four. Pearl City won in the second set of PKs, a sudden death victory on freshman Soraya Santos‘ score, capping a 1-0 upset win.

The battle in the trenches turned into a test of wills. Konawaena trailed at the half, 22-17, then got a layup from Cherilyn Molina and a corner 3 by Caiyle Kaupu to tie the game at 22. From there, the second-seeded Wildcats took control of the tempo and upset top-seeded Maryknoll, making it four consecutive state titles for Konawaena and nine crowns in the past 15 years under Coach Bobbie Awa.
