Soccer All-State teams: 1994-2000

By Jerry Campany on March 21, 2018

Sunday, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser will release its All-State soccer selections, marking the 20th consecutive year a newspaper has put out an All-State team dating back to the Honolulu Advertiser’s 1998 squads. The newspapers did not put out all-state teams in 1996-97, robbing Brian Ching of Kamehameha of the honor of being player of the year, but the Advertiser did publish teams from 1994-1995. As we did with basketball, we have put together the newspaper clippings from past All-State teams. Doubleclick […]

By Nick Abramo on March 14, 2018

Coach Richard Braithwaite is moving on. That’s just something he does. And he is leaving a lasting impact at Hawaii Prep. Braithwaite led Ka Makani to three straight boys soccer state championships — Division II in 2016 and 2017, and a share of the Division I title with Baldwin in 2018. “My family and I are moving to Malawi in Africa,” Braithwaite said. “My wife and I are English teachers, and try to be world travelers, using our teaching as […]

VIDEO: Baldwin/HPA congratulate each other

By Nick Abramo on February 18, 2018

Enemies one minute. Brothers the next. A dramatic, back-and-forth Division I state boys soccer final between Baldwin and Hawaii Prep on Saturday night was in overtime, tied 0-0 and about to reach its conclusion at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Little did anyone know that a lightning delay would eventually lead to the cancellation of the rest of the contest and instead of having the first state D-I champion from the Neighbor Islands, we have two. Soon after, the Bears and […]

Baldwin, HPA soccer: ‘The glass is half full’

By Nick Abramo on February 18, 2018

It is fitting and a shame at the same time. Baldwin and Hawaii Prep tried so desperately to become the first team from the Neighbor Islands to win a Division I state soccer championship. Instead, both of them get that title. That’s where the “fitting” part comes in. They both deserve it and they are both co-champs — the Bears from Maui and Ka Makani from the Big Island. It’s a shame that they didn’t get to finish what they […]

By Hawaii Prep World on February 17, 2018

The weather did not let up and it was decided to postpone the game. The teams have decided not to restart the game in the morning. Co-champions will be crowned in boys […]
