At the end of a lengthy Q&A session, Roosevelt senior Kolbe Irei chats about the many courses he has played on, often with his father, Roy. Irei was featured in Tuesday’s Star-Advertiser. He has already won all three OIA regular-season tournaments at Ala Wai, where he carded a 66, Hoakalei (69) and Oahu Country Club (66).

Kaimuki alum Chan Kim shoots first-round 75 at Open Championship

Former Kaimuki golf standout Chan Kim will have some work to do if he wants to play into the weekend at Royal Portrush. Kim, who won the Hawaii state championship in 2006, shot a 75 at the 148th Open Championship in Northern Ireland today, leaving him in 75th place when he walked off the course. Mid-Pacific sophomore Jake Sequin slept on a two-shot lead after the first day of the David S. Ishii Foundation Hawaii State Boys Golf Championships, and it appears he slept well. Punahou graduate and UCLA sophomore Mariel Galdiano tied for seventh in the individual competition at the NCAA women’s golf championship in Stillwater, Okla. and helped the Bruins tie for the team lead. Galliano carded a 1-under-par 71 at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Tuesday to close the NCAA medal championship among five players at 1 under 287 for the four-day tournament.
