Iolani Boys Volleyball Invitational schedule

The state boys volleyball tournament isn’t until May, but the top teams will begin jockeying for position at this week’s Iolani Volleyball Invitational.

The top five teams in the current Star-Advertiser boys volleyball poll will be competing in the three-day tourament along with three California powers.

Pool C looks like the toughest bracket, with No. 1 Punahou, No. 5 Hawaii Baptist, No. 9 Kalaheo and 2012 Iolani champ Westview. Only the top two teams in that rigorous group will advance into the gold bracket.

No. 3 Kamehameha-Hawaii is in town and can figure to get a challenge from No. 10 Seabury Hall in its group, along with Santa Monica and host Iolani.

No. 2 Kamehameha might have the easiest path, needing to only finish in the top half of a group that includes Kealakehe, Punahou II and ILH rival Maryknoll.

No. 4 Moanalua and La Jolla are favored in the final pool, meeting up with University and Saint Louis.
