Moanalua road-bound in March

In case there’s any confusion, the OIA baseball game between Moanalua and Kailua is set for Saturday, 3 p.m., at Kailua’s field.

There was some question about whether there would be testing earlier in the day (ACT) or not. According to Moanalua coach Scott Yamada, there is testing.

Meanwhile, Moanalua’s field is in the midst of major renovation. The baseball and softball teams will not host a game for the month of March. The baseball squad still has its diamond to practice on.

Yamada is a manicurist of baseball diamonds. His immaculate work gave Na Menehune one of the coolest fields in the league over the years. But he made a change this spring.

“We changed the grass to Tifton Bermuda,” he said. “It’s a hybrid. I’m just trying it out.”

The new grass, Yamada noted, is doing well. Previously, he grew Paspalum.
