Baldwin pitcher shuts down Saint Louis

The state tournament is a long way away, but forgive defending champion Saint Louis if it does all it can to avoid Baldwin when it does roll around.

Baldwin’s Michael Hooper limited the Crusaders to one run in a 3-1 win on Friday, yielding only six hits and striking out four. He wore out Saint Louis pitching as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Dawson Yamaguchi took the damage for Saint Louis.

Campbell did its share of damage on Friday at the Baldwin tournament, beating Kamehameha-Maui 8-1 and allowing only one hit. Ian Kahaloa started things off by going four innings with seven strikeouts and not giving up a hit. Markus Ramos took over from there, yielding one hit over his two innings before Keola Himan shut the door in a scoreless seventh, striking out two batters in the clean frame.

Other scores were Maui 8-6 over Hilo, Maryknoll 7-1 over Waianae and Kaiser 2-1 over King Kekaulike thanks to a 3-hitter by Kamalu Simeona.
