By Hawaii Prep World on March 27, 2020

Closing the Book: No. 2 Konawaena (23-4, 10-0 BIIF) The work was done well, as always, by the Konawaena Wildcats. No, it wasn’t a state-championship season. It was very close, though. In the state final, they took on No. 1 ‘Iolani, a team that routed the Wildcats in preseason. Konawaena was left in the dust early on, then roared back to take the lead. It was a battle to the end before ‘Iolani won its second state title in a […]

UNLV offer makes it eight total for Punahou LB Kahanu Kia

By Hawaii Prep World on March 26, 2020

Kahanu Kia feels grateful, but he won’t lie, either. UNLV’s offer on Wednesday made it a well of mixed emotions during this COVID-19 lockdown. The Punahou junior has eight FBS scholarship offers, as well as two Ivy League schools, Dartmouth and Princeton. The momentum in the recruitment of the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker has picked up, but it was the cancellation of spring-break plans that were a downer. “We had a plan. This coronavirus thing has messed up a lot of […]

By Hawaii Prep World on March 25, 2020

This call came out of nowhere, almost. When Blaine Hipa picked up his phone on Wednesday, he knew it might be a truly long-distance connection. What he didn’t expect was to have a scholarship offer from Tennessee. “Amazing. It’s crazy. It kind of motivates me to want to do more,” said Hipa, a sophomore quarterback who helped Campbell reach the Open Division state tournament last season. “It was a big surprise. I heard from Coach (Nanumi) Lolohea by phone two […]
